Top 10 Reasons to Support Emerge America

 

  1. According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the United States ranks 68th in the world in women's representation, behind nations such as Rwanda, Pakistan and Nicaragua.
  2. Research has proven that one of the primary ways to increase women's participation in politics is through practical training, providing mentors and exposure to the political arena.
  3. Since 1789 only 2% of members of Congress have been women.
  4. Currently, women hold 73 (of 435) seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. To date, 221 women have served in the U.S. House of Representatives.
  5. Currently, women hold 17 (of 100) seats in the U.S. Senate. To date, a total of 39 women have served in the U.S. Senate.
  6. There are currently 19 states with no female representation in Congress and 4 have never had one at all.  
  7. Currently, 6 states are represented by women Governors. To date, a total of 31 women have served as Governor.
  8. Emerge America is the only in-depth, seven-month training program that inspires candidates to run and gives them the tools to win.
  9. With 37% of Emerge alumnae having run for elected office and 50% of these Emerge candidates having won, our high success rate sets us apart and on the path to equal representation.
  10. As of 2009 we have Emerge Affiliates in eight states (Arizona, California, Massachusetts, Maine, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, and Wisconsin) with plans to be in 12 states by 2012.
