Carolyn Essex

Carolyn Essex recently graduated from the Emerge Nevada
program in 2009. She is running for Nevada State Assembly in District 7,
North Las Vegas in November, 2010.
Carolyn is a Community Organizer and Political activist and currently resides
in North Las Vegas. Public service and involvement has been her passion
for more than 28 years. She first entered public service as an employee
for the City of Los Angeles, Community Development Department in 1980.
After leaving the Community Development Department in 1998, Mrs. Essex
began a career in hospitality with Good Nite Inn, Inc. as their Operations
Coordinator. She has also worked on the campaigns of Steven Horsford,
Shelley Berkley and Dina Titus. As a precinct captain, she trained for and
chaired a successful precinct caucus in January of 2008 and was a Clark County
delegate for Barack Obama at the Nevada State democratic convention in Reno,
NV.
After completing her Emerge program last year, she said the training "gave
me the confidence and knowledge to run - from all the nuts and bolts to
announcing your candidacy, raising funds, and speaking before a small or large
crowd." Her campaign is already off to a great start, with several
successful fundraisers and a mention of support from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at the
local Asian American fundraiser in her community!
Mrs. Essex's has gained appointment to the Citizen's Advisory Committee in
North Las Vegas, Assembly District Leader (AD7) and is also a member of the
State and Clark County, Democratic Central Committees. Her Emerge
community has also proven to be an incredible network for her campaign, which
has helped her meet new people and raise funds. "I just want to make
them proud," she shared, in appreciation for everything Emerge has done to
support her.
Carolyn is married to Marine Corps veteran, Charles Essex and has four children
between the ages of 7 to 23 years of age.
